Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number be x

subtract 85 from it

x-85

multiply by 5

5(x-85)=5x-425

result is 4 times the number

4x

=>5x-425=4x

=>5x-4x=+425

=>x=425

Let the original no. be x

Given that 85 is subtracted from the original number, after subtraction result is then multiplied by 5 and After multiplication the result is four times the original number.

The equation comes out will be

5(x - 85) = 4x

We have to find the original number (x)

5(x - 85) = 4x

5x - 425 = 4x

- 425 = 4x - 5x

- 425 = - x

425 = x

or, x = 425
