i) Two resistance of 6 ohm and 12 ohm are connected in parallel. A 6V battery is connected
across its ends, find the values of the following quantities:
(a) Equivalent resistance of the parallel combination.
(b) Current passing through each of the resistance.
(c) Potential across each of the resistance.

(a) Equivalent resistance of the parallel combination.

1/Rp= 1/R1+ 1/R2

1/Rp= 1/6+ 1/12

1/Rp=2+1 /12= 3/12= 1/4

Rp= 4

Hence the equivalent resistance of the Parallel

combination is 4 ohm.

(b) Current passing through each of the resistance.

Case1

when R1 = 6

I1 = V/R1

I1= 6/6

I1(current in first case) = 1 A

Case 2

when R2= 12

I 2 ( current in 2nd case)= V/R2

I 2= 6/12=1/2=0.5

I 2= 0.5 A

c) Potential across each of the resistance

remains same 6V
