There are large number of organic chemical compounds with more or less same sets of molecules.

Naming each and every compound and remembering those names are very difficult.

That's why scientists use IUPAC naming system for giving those chemical compounds a name from the compound's chemical structure.

Similarly, according to the IUPAC naming system the name of methyl acetylene is "methanoic acid".
