Solution :-

given, cyclist rides 20 km towards East from a point P to the point Q and PQ represent positive number .

so, the cyclist right side of number line 20 km .

P --------------- Q

  • PQ = 20 km .

now, from Q he rides towards west along same path and reaches R.

since, west direction is opposite of east direction .

R-------P --------------- Q .

  • RQ = 30 km .

then,

→ RP = RQ - PQ

→ RP = 30 - 20

→ RP = 10 km .

now, since PQ represent positive number we can conclude that, P is origin and Q is on the right side of number line .

Also,

  • R is on left side of number line 10 km away from origin .

therefore , the number that will represent the cyclist's final position is (-10) .
