The narrator waited outside the hospital until they returned. They boys didn't want the narrator to know their secret. That's why they had not invited to meet their sister, Lucia. The narrator didn't want to hurt their feelings by talking anything about their sister. Besides, he was reflecting over their greatness, devotion and selflessness and the strength of their spirit.
