The Universe contains billions of galaxies, each containing millions or billions of stars. The space between the stars and galaxies is largely empty.

For kids: Space is anything beyond our earth's atmosphere.In fact earth itself belongs to the space. its vast and keeps on expanding.our earth is microscopic in front of the large space. the space consists of planets asteroids galaxies nebulas etc. only ten percent of space is yet studied by us with help of telescopes sattelites etc. Various unimaginable things lie in the space which is yet to be known by us.The space is largely vacuum which prevents transfer of sound.
