the law of conservation of momentum states that the momentum before collision and momentum after collision is equal, in other words, sum of products of two moving bodies before and after the collision is same.

Writing in equation form,

m1u1 + m2u2 = m1v1 + m2v2

where m = mass

u = initial velocity

v = final velocity
