The culture of a society means its ideas, customs and art. The culture of a country is its customs, religions, music and dance. The food habits of the people, the festivals they celebrate, their art and handicrafts are all part of their culture.

India is a large country. A unique feature of our country is that all the major religions of the world are practiced here like Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism and Zoroastrianism. There are also many languages
grid dialects spoken in different parts of the country. There are also great varieties in costume, food-habits, and social customs.

India, being a secular country, provides his citizens the freedom to follow any religion. But we notice many common beliefs and customs among all the religions. On the occasion of festivals we pray, feast, go to the fairs, sing, and dance and wear colorful dresses. We have some festivals which are religious, and there are some festivals which are associated with seasons. Apart from these, we have National festivals such as Independence Day, Republic Day and Gandhi Ajanta.

These festivals are celebrated throughout the country with same zeal and enthusiasm. Some festivals such as Diwali, Dussehra, Holi, Id and Christmas are celebrated in most parts of the country. But Baishakhi, Pongal, Oman, Guruparv, Bah, Besant Panama, etc. are the regional festivals celebrated in some parts of the country. Birthdays of gods and other great man are also celebrated as festivals, for examples, we celebrate the birthday of Gautama Buddha as Buddha Purina, lord Mohair’s birthday as Mohair Jayanti, and Guru Nanak's as Guruparv.

Our culture also includes dance, music and art. Two types of dances classical and folk are in practice in India. Classical dance includes Bharat Nathan which comes from Tamil Nadu, Katha from North India, Kathakli from Kerala, Kuchipudi from Andhra Pradesh, and Manipur from simpler and are mostly associated with "seasons. The Punjabis enjoy Bangla, the Gujarat’s enjoy Garba, the Bihar is Chou, the Rajasthan’s Gummer, the Assamese Binue and the people of Maharashtra enjoy Lavonia.

There are two main schools of classical music. North Indian School is called Hindustani and the South Indian School is called Carnatic. In India we have the Guarani Tradition. A student learns music from his guru by living in his house. Apart from these, we have film music which is very popular.

Thus we see different parts of our country have different customs, religions, languages, dress, and food habits

Friends, I wish to say a few words about "Culture".  It is vast topic really. But I will say a little of what I know.

Introduction : what is it and what do we understand by saying culture

Culture comprises of all the good ways of living of people in a civilization.  Culture consists of the beliefs, customs, traditions, ethical and moral values of groups of persons.  People with similar culture live together in general.  People of a region have a culture that evolves over many decades.

Culture also means various performing arts like dance, instrumental music, singing, painting, drama, creating writing, craft making, debating, elocution and many more.  These are often characteristic of a civilization.

Continuing on :

Culture of a person means the way a person speaks, behaves, responds to various incidents and the conduct of the person including his manners.  Culture has a very important impact on the growth of a person or a society.  When there is no culture, people in the society do not have a common understanding of what is good and what is not good.

Our culture tells us what practices, if we follow, will enable us to live better in our region.  Nowadays, the fast growing India has adopted several cultures and has forgotten many of its traditions and cultures.  The olden traditions and value systems are being forgotten and new values systems are coming in from all parts of the world.  This may be good for some Indians. But respecting one's own culture and upholding is be our responsibility.

The culture is changing from village and small town living style to city and apartment in micro families, shopping malls, pubs, cinemas, entertainment etc.

conclusion :

Often we try to praise western culture and insult our own.  Our culture gives us a great identity.  Be proud of it. Protect it and uphold it.
