We were alarmed at the robbery in City Centre II, in New Town, in the Rajarhat Area of Kolkata last Friday. This shook us up as we live near the mall. Several shops were broken open and looted in the dead of night. But, the worst affected was the Big Bazar supermarket, from where we obtain our monthly requirement of provisions. My sister and I often go to this super market with our parents, not only for our regular requirements for the house,but occasionally also to buy clothing for the family. The robbers broke through the main entrance, rummaged the cash counters and looted cash from the safe. The total loss was estimated to be around Rupees fifteen lakhs. Thankfully, though, the super market has a comprehensive burglary insurance cover which should take care of the loss.

A robbery in a supermarket

It was a busy evening of the city & we were in nearby supermarket to buy some monthly ration. After all required shopping I was having some snecks with family in cafeteria adjacent to supermarket. Suddenly few masked & armed people entered in the supermarket. They were shouting & destroying the property. I think they were around 7-8 people. They fired few bullet shots in air & hostage the people in store. 2 of them rushed to the cash counter of market & garb the hand of Manger & told him to hand over all money. He was feared too much about life as they point the gun on his head. He manages to hand over all money by his shivering hands. They asked for more money & thrashed the manager on floor behind the counter. Manager fallen on floor because he couldn’t bear the sudden push.. Meanwhile all people were talking & threatening the crowd on gun points. Manager tried to stand up again then he just saw Fire Extinguisher nearby his counter. He suddenly lifted the fire Extinguisher & hit the parson who  was quarreling with other parson with him over more money to loot. Man fall on ground with solid hit of Fire Extinguisher & gun dropped from his hand. Manager quickly pulled the trigger of Fire Extinguisher. Area filled with thick CO2 smoke .Robbers didn’t have the chance to understand the situation. Public attacked on all robbers with the advantage of fog. By the time I called police & people handover the all robber to police. People & police thanked   & appreciate the manager for his presence of mind & will to fight back under the situation of threat.
