Good morning honorable judges, erudite teachers and my dear fellow students I, __________ from class XII, am here express my view against the motion 'Importance of games and sports in our life.'
My worthy opponents have said much about the importance of sports in our life and I quite respect their sentiment, but may I ask them if they were to choose a career, how many of them would choose to devote all their life in pursuit of chasing the shadow of their own which doesn't lead them anywhere. Politics involved in selection of players is not alien to us.
As per my views, if Einstein, Graham Bell and Thomas Edison had chosen to become a sportsmen, the world wouldn't have known them for their invaluable contribution in our progress. Sports, on the other hand, is like spending your energy and efforts in a futile endeavor which doesn't mark progress of humankind as well as civilization.
In their striving to win, sportsmen take to drugs and unfair means which not only demean them but their country also. My point here is why to encourage something that promotes negative aspects of behavior in us. Match fixing is another blot on their nation. Why then we should go 'gaga' over sports and games.
Next, I strongly feel against violent games like boxing, wrestling etc. which are open threat to the safety of the players. It's really weird to see so many people willingly ready to harm themselves.
Lastly I want to ask my friend Samuel about the truth in his statement that sports only ensure our good health. I would like to suggest 'Yoga' as a better alternate.
I suppose I have been able to bring across my point that the there is no sound logic behind the hype about games and sports.
Thank you for being a patient audience.
