Gandhi Ji started the Non cooperation movement in 1920 which was later merged with the Khilafat movement and advise the people not to co-operate with the British. Consequently, the people give UP Government post and titles. The students left government colleges and schools. The hundreds of lawyers left their legal practice. The people boycotted foreign goods. Khadi became the symbol of freedom. The government suppress the movement very harsh G and put a number of popular leaders behind the bars. But they did not arrest Gandhiji. The Congress lead a peaceful procession at Chauri Chaura. The police fired at it. The people burnt the police station, in which 22 police men died. So in 1922, Gandhiji called off the movement.
