sulphur is only soluble in carbon disulphide.
Now, phosphorous is not.
So when we dissolve the mixture of sulphur and phosphorous in carbon disulphide , the sulphur is dissolved in the carbon disulphide while the phosphorous is left out. Just filter the mixture and you'll get phosphorous.
To get sulphur just use the distillation or evaporation technique.
