"There was a daisy which grew on a small patch of grass which was opposite to a flower garden. Beautiful roses, tulips and peonies grew in the garden. The daisy knew that it was not beautiful or fragrant like those flowers. But it was happy and enjoyed being nourished by the sun and the beauty of its surroundings.
One morning a lark came and hopped around the daisy. It sang about the beauty of the little flower and ignored all the flowers in the garden. The daisy was very delighted. The next day the daisy heard the lark singing a sad song. The lark had been captured and put in a cage. The daisy wanted to free the lark but it was helpless.
Two boys cut up a piece of turf which has the daisy in it and put it in the lark's cage. The lark is unhappy that the daisy will also die in the cage. The daisy wanted to help the lark so it became extraordinarily fragrant. The lark noticed this.
As the lark had not been given water it tore up every bit of the grass to quench its thirst but left the daisy untouched. Next morning both the daisy and the lark were dead. The boys who had imprisoned and neglected the bird were very sad. They held a funeral for the lark. But they did not know about the daisy which had tried to comfort the bird. They threw away the piece of turf.
