It is a sum on weighted average.

A watch is 4 minutes fast on the first day, 3 minutes on the second day and 6 minutes on the third. How much fast it was per day on the average?

Reqd. avg. = sum of observations / no. of observations

= 4+3+6/3

= 13/3

= 4 1/3 minutes
