A farmer lived with his wife in a village. He was very hardworking and together with his wife they were prosperous. Once, their village was hit by drought. The farmer also suffered but he was able to satisfy his basic necessities with his savings. His brother used to live in nearby village and had large patch of field.
"Let's go to my brother. He will certainly give us a patch of land to cultivate", the farmer said to his wife. They both arrived at the farmer's brother's door the next day.
The brother was a selfish man. He gave barren land to his brother to cultivate. The farmer's wife was furious. "Don't be unhappy. We should thank God that we got a piece of land and start working on it", the farmer assured his wife.
They both started working on the field. But a problem arised. They didn't have enough water. The farmer put the problem aside and started ploughing and tilling the land. One day while tilling he came upon some reed grass. The presence of reed grass meant water was available underground. The farmer thanked the God and started digging a well. He worked hard everyday till evening. He didn't take any workers help. At last he was rewarded. He got sufficient water to irrigate his fields and by the end of the agricultural year he was more prosperous than his brother.
