Helen Keller's story's setting was in a variety of places, but she spent her lot of time in Boston and Alabama. It takes place in the late 1880s and early 1900s.
Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880. She was very smart as well as a naughty child and said her first word at 6 months. She could walk at one year. When the illness made her deaf as well as blind, she was filled with sadness. She was in darkness with no way to call out. Sometimes, in her frustration, she hurt people with uncontrollable fits.
Helen would not have been able to do anything if it had not been for Anne Sullivan's patience and teaching. Miss Anne Sullivan taught Helen all the basic things like reading, writing etc. Through a special finger language, Helen was able to talk with her mates and family member and go far in life.
Helen went to Cambridge school and passed each year, even thought Anne Sullivan was the only person who could communicate with her. Helen would not have able to do anything without the help of Miss Anne Sullivan. Anne Sullivan and some other people played a very important role in Helen's life.
Helen Keller's mother, Kate Adams tried her best to teach, comfort and interact with Helen and was always ready to help Helen with anything she could do.
Alexander Graham Bell found Anne Sullivan for Helen and was one of Helen's favorite friends. He taught her how to think of ordinary objects in different ways.
Bishop Brooks taught Helen to believe in God. Brooks told her that God would give her hope and a life in heaven with sight and sound.
Miss Sarah Fuller helped Helen to talk and also gave many ideas to Anne Sullivan on how to help Helen.
With the help from these friends and many others, Helen was able to get into Radcliffe College. In 1904, Helen graduated with high honors as one of the top students.
Helen's life was filled with twists, turns, ups and downs. A down for Helen was when she accidentally plagiarized a book called THE FROST KING.
A high for her was her trip to Boston in 1888, when she interacted with the girls using a finger language. She always enjoyed in Boston and that made her call Boston THE CITY OF KIND HEARTS.
Helen loved everyone she met and enjoyed meeting with new people. Helen also loved animals and nature and had a special type of connection with them.
At the end of her book, Helen says, "Thus it is that my friends have made the story of my life. In a thousand ways they have turned my limitations into privileges and enabled me to walk serene and happy in the shadow cast by my deprivation."

Mrs. Kate

Adams Keller was an extremely caring mother. She was the second wife of Mr. Arthur H. Keller and quite younger than him. Towards Helen, she was more caring

and responsible. Before Miss Sullivan's arrival, she was her loving refuge.

Whenever Helen had a tantrum of frustration on account of being unable to

express herself, she would go into her mother's arms where she would forget the

cause of her tempest. Her mother was very much concerned regarding Helen's

education. She was always requesting her husband to arrange for her education.

It was she who saw the hope of the possibility of Helen's education while

reading the account of Laura Bridgman. She wanted Helen to be educated like

her. She also felt very sad on knowing that Dr Howe, who had taught Laura

Bridgman, had died. She was always in search of finding out ways to make life

of Helen more comfortable.

Helen's Father

Arthur H. Keller was Helen's father. He was retired captain of the Confederate Army. He was an accomplished hunter and farmer. He was known in the neighborhood for his hospitality and horticulture skills. Often he told Helen interesting stories.  He was a great father who loved Helen a lot.  Her father was

also very much concerned about her. When he heard about an eminent oculist who

had been successful in many hopeless cases, he at once decided to take Helen to

Chisholm in Baltimore. He examined little Helen and expressed Helen's blindness

could not be treated. He advised Helen's father to meet Dr. Graham Bell in

Washington. Helen's father immediately took her to Dr. Bell. Dr. Bell referred

him to Mr.Anagnos, who promised him to arrange a special teacher for Helen. The news of his sudden death left Helen sorrow-stricken. Helen loved him a lot.
