III. Explanation to justify your Answer :-

i. A concave mirror gives the dentist a magnified reflection of the mouth while also refracting a bit of light. This means the image in the mirror is larger, brighter, and, for the dentist, easier to see. Another plus of using a concave mirror is that the image in the mirror isn't inverted.

ii. Concave mirror is used in headlights of vehicles, because when the bulb of headlight is placed at focus of concave mirror, it allows the light to spread out to infinity (longer distances). A concave mirror is a converging mirror as opposed to a convex mirror which is a diverging mirror.

iii. Convex mirrors have very wide field of view as they are curved outwards. So, the convex mirrors enable the driver to view much larger area than a plane mirror. Hence, it is used as a rear view mirror in automobiles to see objects at the backside of the vehicle.

iv. Convex mirror is also called diverging mirror as it diverges the beam of light falling on it. It ia for this purpose that it is used in street lamps as it would diverge the light rays and hence spread the light so that visibility increases.

v. Concave mirrors are used in solar cookers. This is because they are the only type of mirrors that reflect sunlight to a single focal point. Concave mirrors absorb all the incident light and reflect it to a single focal point. This reflected light is very powerful because it carries a lot of thermal energy.

Answer:

(i) Concave mirrors are used by dentists. This is because when a tooth is within the focus of a concave mirror, then an enlarged image of the tooth is seen in the concave mirror. Due to this, it becomes easier to locate the defect in the tooth

(ii) Concave mirror is used in the headlights of vehicles as a reflector. Bulb is placed at the focus of concave mirror so the light rays coming from bulb are collected and after reflection we get a strong beam of light .

(iii) Convex mirror is used as rear view mirrors in vehicles , the other vehicles are always beyond the 2F of convex lens so we get a diminished and erect image of other vehicle on lens hence lens gives a larger field of view to us , and we can see more vehicles in lens .

(iv) Convex mirror is also called diverging mirror as it diverges the beam of light falling on it. It is for this purpose that it is used in street lamps as it would diverge the light rays and hence spread the light so that visibility increase.

(v) A concave mirror is used in solar cooker because it converges light rays coming from infinity to a point so that more heat is produced at the point sufficient to cook the food.
