Ratnanka was brought up by his mother

and grandmother as his father had left

them and walked away from the village.

The boy  went and saw the merchant

A dead rat lying on the road and told him

To take it , sell it and with that money

Start his business. Ratnanka did as told.

He took the dead rat and walked home.

On the way, as luck would have it, a man

Bought the dead rat to feed his pet cat,

And gave Ratnanka some money. With

That money Ratnanka started trading

In food grains and slowly built up his

Business. In three years, he became a

Man of means and all respected him.

Ratnanka made a rat with baked clay

And coated it with gold. He took it to

The merchant as a gift and thanked him

For giving valuable advice two years ago.

The merchant was amazed. He realized

That Ratnanka was no ordinary boy but

An intelligent man and now wealthy too.

He gave him his only daughter in marriage.

Ratnanka was by now a rich merchant

Himself. But he kept the golden rat in his

Shop to remind him of his earlier poverty.

His mother and grandma were happy too.
