a phrase is a simple sentence from which we find not complete sense
but a clause is a sentence in which subject and object and verb are present and after reading clause we fing a complete sense of a sentence

I will give you a simple explanation. hope you will understand it.
ex: as he wrote he exams will, he passed.
here, if we remove 'as' the line before the comma becomes, ' he wrote the exams will'
it gives some meaning.
so it is clause
ex: being a student, I respect my teachers.
here, if you remove 'being' , it will become 'a student'
it still doesn't make any sense.
so it is phrase
