Dalton discovered nucleus of atom by the famous gold foil experiment. He shot a beam of alpha particles on a very thin gold foil and he observed that though most of them passed through, a few of them showed deflection. This was because alpha particles and the nucleus are positively charged, so they repel each other. This proved the existence of the nucleus.
