in starting firstly u have to learn about events 
there are two types of events
1.sure event which is equal to 1 
2.impossible event which is equal to zero

the probability of an event E is a number P(E) such that 0≤ p(E) ≤1

if the probability of an event is E ,then q ,the probability of the event not E therefore the non occuring event can be find out by 1 - E(probability of that  event ).
