I was awakened by a loud scream

I was awakened by a kid scream... I silently got out from the bed and peeped out my bedroom. I started to walk towards my parents room and then remembered that my parents were out of town.

I quietly went back and slept thinking it was all just a dream.

When I got up the next day I found the police knocking at my door. When I opened it they asked something which shook me, “Last night your neighbor got murdered, did you hear or see anything?”

I shaking lay told the whole story and the Chief Inspector got disappointed because I didn’t do anything or atleast check.

It’s been 15 years and I still blame myself for the death of an innocent woman.
