soaps are the sodium or potassium long hydrocarbon chains

micelle is formed when we clean a dirty cloth with the help of soap due to the repulsive nature of tail and head which further helps in cleaning the cloth.

if we use hard water then foam would not form which leads to cleaning of dirty cloth.
