Hydrogen (H) is the element of group IA which is not an alkali metal.

Explanation:

  • The ionization enthalpy of the alkali metals is low but on the other hand, Hydrogen has a high value of the ionization enthalpy like the non-metals.
  • Alkali metals form an alkaline oxide and hydroxide which dissolve in water to give an alkaline solution while on the other hand Hydrogen forms a neutral oxide that is H₂O.
  • All the alkali metals are solid at room temperature while Hydrogen exists in the gaseous phase as a diatomic molecule (H₂).

Due to the above properties, Hydrogen (H) which is the element of group IA is not considered an alkali metal.
