Carbon has four electron in its valance cell
Explanation:
- Hence it is capable of bonding with four other atoms of carbon or atoms of some other mono-valent element. Carbon is found to bond with oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, sulphur, chlorine and many other elements.
- Carbon can for single double or triple bonds with these elements. Saturated compounds are those which form single bond and the ones with double or triple bods are unsaturated compounds.
- As the pi bond in the unsaturated compounds are weak compared to the bond in saturated compound, they tend to be more reactive.
