The reason that the taiga region does not exist in the southern hemisphere is because it is closer to the equator! This is causing more heat to be where the southern hemisphere is and the The Prairies are known as the granaries of the world because of the huge production of wheat. The moderate temperature, moderate rainfall and fertile and humid soil in these prairies made them the largest producers of the wheat in the world. That is why they are known as the granaries of the world.
