they are considered valuable as they are skillful workers and expertised in forest cutting and building palaces for kings
when dutch gain began to control the forests they forced kalang to work under them
so they revolted dutch by attacking the dutch fort at joana in 1770 but they were suppressed again by dutch

Kalangs of Java were skillful foresters and shifting cultivators. They were important as their guidance was necessary for betterment of the forest sectors. The Kalangs first rose in rebellion against Dutch when they were forced to work under the Dutch. However this rebellion was suppressed.
