\huge\mathfrak\red{Answer:}

Factor:

  • A number or algebric expression which can divide other number or algebric expression completely
  • For ex : 2 is factor of 4

Given:

  • A Quadratic Polynomial whose one of its factor is ( x - 1 )
  • p(x) = k {x}^{2}  -  \sqrt{2} x  + 1

To Find:

  • The value of k in the following given expression

Solution:

Since ( x - 1 ) is a factor of P( x )

Hence

X - 1 = 0 must be a zero

X = 1

Hence X = 1 is a zero of P( x )

Putting x = 1 in the given equation

p(1) = k{(1)}^{2}  -  \sqrt{2}  + 1

k  - \sqrt{2}  + 1 = 0

k =  \sqrt{2}  - 1

Hence value of k comes to be

 \sqrt{2}  - 1
