The military generals saluted Nelson Mandela. A spectacular show of South African jets, helicopters and troop carriers did a fly-past in perfect formation over the Union Buildings. This was done as a demonstration of the military’s loyalty to democracy.

Their attitude had undergone a change over the years. A few years they would have not saluted him, but arrested him.

This change came in their attitude because now Nelson Mandela had been elected as the President of South Africa.
