How is food prevented from going into the windpipe while swallowing?

I need proper answer with explanation.

Answer:

yes....

as down the buccal cavity there is a food pipe( oesophagus) and wind pipe.(larynx). So at the time of swallowing food ,the larynx is covered by the epiglottis....also called as cover of glottis ( windpipe).....

so the food doesnot fall in windpipe( due to epiglottis covering.)......
