Answer:

a²-8a+5a-40

a(a-8)+5(a-8)

a-8)(a+5)

(a+b+c)²=a²+b²+c²+2ab+2bc+2ca

a+b+c)²=35+2*23

a+b+c=√35+46

a+b+c=√81

a+b+c=+9,-9

multiply second equation by 1/3 and subtract it fron first one

2/x-1/x=1/6

1*6=x

6=x

3/6+2/y=0

2/y=-1/2

y=-4

Step-by-step explanation:

(a) a²-3a-40

= a² -8a +5a-40

= a(a-8)+5(a-8)

=(a-8)(a+5)

(b)(a+b+c)²=a²+b²+c²+2(ab+bc+ca)

(a+b+c)²=35+2(23)

(a+b+c)²=35+46

(a+b+c)²=81

a+b+c=+-9
