Given :

  • On adding three fourth of a number to 3 we get 42.

To find:

  • The number?

Solution:

In order to find the number, we need to make a equation using the given thing.

• Let the number be x.

Using the given words, The equation will be –

⟶ 3/4th of x + 3 = 42

⟶ 3/4 × x + 3 = 42

⟶ 3/4x + 3 = 42

⟶ 3/4x = 42 - 3

⟶ 3/4x = 39

⟶ 3x = 39 × 4

⟶ 3x = 156

⟶ x = 156/3

⟶ x = 52

∴ Hence, The required number is 52.

Verification :

In order to verify our answer, We need to substitute the value of x in "3/4x + 3 = 42" If right hand side is equal to left hand side the answer obtained is right.

3/4x + 3 = 42

Taking LHS,

⟶ 3/4(52) + 3

⟶ 39 + 3 = 42

RHS = 42

LHS = RHS

Hence, Verified!
