Heya !!

Here is your answer..

The louvres of the Stevenson screen wooden box has been designed in this way because the louvered side allow air to flow through it and also protect the instruments from direct sunlight and heat.

It is because the box acts like a shelter which protects it from rain, sunlight etc.

The main purpose is to protect the thermometer from external as well as environmental things.

Hope it helps...

A Stevenson screen or instrument shelter is a shelter or an enclosure to shield meterological instruments against precipitation and direct heat radiation from outside sources, while still allowing forms part of a standard weather station. The Stevenson screen holds instruments that may include thermometer(ordinary, maximum/minimum), a hygrometer, a psychrometer a dewxell, a barometer and a thermograph. Stevenson screens may also be known as a cotton region shelter, an instrument shelter, a thermometer shelter, a thermoscreen or a thermometer screen. Its purpose is to provide a standardised environment in which to measure temperature, humidity, dewpoint and atmospheric pressure. to circulate freely around them.
