Just as steam at 100 degrees centigrade has a greater amount of heat at and its effect than water at the same temperature due to the latent heat of evaporation, even ice has a greater cooling effect at 0 degree centigrade than the water at the same temperature. This is because of the"hidden heat present in it as the particle in the substance possess that temperature. This is called latent heat of fusion.
