Answer:

Ice appear colder to mouth than water.  Ice has less energy than that of water. Water has latent heat of fusion in it. But, its hidden so it is in the form of energy.

Answer:

Ice absorbs latent heat (80 cal) and water absorbs specific heat (1 cal) at 0° C that's why it appears more colder than water.

Explanation:

  • Ice has a latent heat of 80 cal per gram whereas water absorbs only 1 cal heat at 0° Celsius and increase its temprature.

  • That means ice needs 80 cal energy in order to convert itself to water.

  • Hence, when our tongue touches the ice of the ice-cream it tends to absorb 80 cal heat from our tongue per gram and converts itself to water. Whereas water is only able to absorb 1 cal from our tongue.

  • As a result our tongue looses more heat from it's surface through ice and gives a sensation of more coolness as compared to water.
