Underneath the frozen upper layer, the water remains in its liquid form and does not freeze. Also, oxygen is trapped beneath the layer of ice. As a result, fish and other aquatic animals find it possible to live comfortably in the frozen lakes and ponds.

  • When the ponds, lakes, and rivers are frozen in the extreme cold conditions.
  • While during that period, the water which was frozen as ice in the top surface forms some pore like holes.
  • By the holes, the air will be flow through inside and it will insulate the water.
  • So, the water inside won't be able to freeze as solid.
  • In that watery area under the top surface of ice, will help the aquatic animals like fish, frog etc, to live in the watery area which is under the top surface.
