ice is solid still floats on water? why?

when temp. is decrease, density increase. but in case of water, the max. density is in 4 degree. below 4 degree density is not increse but decrese. and at0 degree(ice), the density is less then water at 4 degree.

ice is solid still its density is almost 9% less than the density of liquid water


so due to less density although being solid it is able to float on water
