generally we can make them in three states because when we heat water it becomes steam which is in gaseous form so,here water the liquid state is converted in gaseous form (liquid to gaseous)

now, when we cool down water in below 4 c temp it becomes ice which is considered in solid form (liquid to solid)

so, it is proved that water ,ice ,and steam are three states of matter

I HOPE IT HELPS YOU..
THANKS..

When water freezes it changes into solid from liquid that is ice and when ice is heated it changes from solid state to liquid state .
when liquid is heated it changes into liquid state to gaseous state that is steam and when steam is cooled it changes again to liquid state and these three states change by changing the temperature.
to change solid to liquid heat is absorbed and to change liquid to solid heat is rejected.
when liquid is changed to steam the heat is absorbed . it tells us ice, water and steam are three states of matter
