Her father would be sure to beat her,and besides,it was so cold at home for they had nothing but the roof above them,and the wind whistle through that even though the largest cracks were stuffed with straw and rags. She found her grandmother to be more beautiful and tall. ... These visions gave the little girl all the happiness and warmth which she had never got in her life.
