Idiogram or idiogram is the graphical representation of the chromosome complement or karyotype.

Explanation:

  • Organisms contain a set of chromosomes in their cell. Each chromosome is different in morphology(size, shape) and gene sets.  
  • The picture taken that shows the total cell chromosome is called karyotype and the systematic diagramme that shows all the chromosomes is called ideogram or karyogram.
  • They can be used to find out the abnormality in genes. Genetic disorder and disease can be confirmed by idiograms. It can be used to find out if the couple has a risk of getting a child having a genetic disorder.
