a)=Coal is burned in the boiler furnace to produce heat. Carbon in the coal and oxygen in the air combine to produce carbon dioxide and heat. Stage 2 is a thermodynamic process. The heat from combustion of the coal boils water in the boiler to produce steam.

b)= Potential energy of the water in the reservoir changes to kinetic energy .The blades of turbine represent mechanical energy, spinning the turbine generator which converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy due to the nature of the generator...
