Iron displaces Copper from it’s solution and hence, the Blue-coloured Copper Sulphate solution turns to greenish Ferrous Sulphate and the copper displaced gets deposited on the iron nail.

So, the iron nail turns reddish-browndue to deposit of copper on it

Iron is more electropositive than copper. It can displace Copper (Cu) from its salt Copper sulphate (CuSO4) and thus its colour changes from blue to green. Fe + CuSO4 →FeSO4 + Cu



FeSO4 which is previously light green in colour due to the presence of water of crystallization, lose it's green colour and changes to white (i.e., of anhydrous FeSO4) on heating.


FeSO4.xH20 → FeSO4 (anhydrous) + xH20 (separating water of crystallization
