Answer:

A stem is one of two main structural axes of a vascular plant, the other being the root. It supports leaves, flowers and fruits, transports fluids between the roots and the shoots in the xylem and phloem, stores nutrients, and produces new living tissue.

Elongated cells which are thickened at the corners : It's Collenchyma of Plant Cells. These cells are irregularly thickened with cellulose.

a) The stem conducts water and nutrient minerals from their site of absorption in the roots to the leaves by means of certain vascular tissues in the xylem. The movement of synthesized foods from the leaves to other plant organs occurs chiefly through other vascular tissues in the stem called phloem

b) Cells which are elongated and thickened at the corner are COLLENCHYMA.
