Electrophilic atoms are the electron deficient atoms in a molecule. These are the atoms which have vacant orbitals looking for electrons, or positively charged ions. Partially ionic compounds have electrophilic centers. As one of the two atoms in the bond, pulls away electrons towards it more, the other atom becomes an electrophilic center.
Say H+, Cl2, Br2, many organic molecules etc.
Electrophilic centers develop in the middle of reactions. So existing bonds break and new bonds form.
