Answer:

A. Fe is undergoing oxidation and sulphur is 7ndergoing reduction.

B. Ag2O is getting reduced.

C. Mg is getting oxidised and O2 is getting reduced

D. NiO is getting reduced and H2 is getting oxidised.

Explanation:

in A Fe is getting added to a non metal which is definition of oxidation whereas sulphur is getting added to iron which is a metal so it is undergoing reduction. Moreover you can apply electronic concept also which is: if an element gains electrons like that of a non metal then it undergoes reduction and if it looses then it's oxidation.

B . Ag2O gets decomposed to Ag and O2 so it's loosing O2 therefore it's reduction.

C Mg is added to oxygen so it's oxidation and oxygen is added to a metal so it's reduction.

D NiO is loosing O2 so it's reduction and H2 is gaining oxygen so it's oxidation.

theory:

oxidation is gain in oxidation number/ loss of electron/gain of oxygen/loss of hydrogen.

reduction: decrease in oxidation number/gain of electron/loss of oxygen atom/gain of hydrogen

in elementary state, oxidation number=0

Explanation:

      Fe⁰+ S⁰---->Fe⁺²S⁻²

                        Fe goes from 0 to 2 hence oxidation

                        S goes from 0 to -2 hence reduction

2Ag⁺¹₂O⁻² ---->4Ag⁰ +O⁰₂

                       Ag goes from 1 to 0 hence reduction

                       O₂ goes from -2 to 0 hence oxidation

2Mg⁰ + O⁰₂ --->2Mg⁺²O²⁻

                        Mg goes from 0 to 2 hence oxidation

                        O₂ goes from 0 to -2 hence reduction

Ni²O⁻² + H⁰₂ ---> Ni⁰ + H¹₂O⁻²

                          Ni goes from 2 to 0 hence reduction

                          H₂ goes from 0 to 1 hence oxidation
