\star Both X and Y are South Poles.

Reason:

  • Outside a magnet , magnetic field lines always originate and diverge from the North Pole and move towards the South pole , such that the field lines again converge and enter the S-Pole.

  • Inside a magnet , the field lines move from the South Pole to North Pole.

  • In the attached diagram, the field lines are converging and terminating at X and Y points.

Hence , both X and Y are South Poles.
