Solution:

CH₃- Cl (Methylchloride) reacts with KCN (Potassium cyanide) to give CH₃CN(Acetonitrile) and KCl (potassium chloride).

CH₃- Cl  + KCN → CH₃CN + KCl

CH₃CN is made to react with LiAlH4(Lithium aluminum hydride) in the presence of H₂O to give ethylamine(CH₃CH₂NH₂) as a final product.

  • LiAlH4 grp is added to CH₃CN by nucleophilic addition thus leading to the formation of an aluminum salt CH₃CH₂NLi⁺AlH₂.
  • Then this salt (CH₃CH₂NLi⁺AlH₂) will further react with H₂O to give ethylamine.

\sf{CH_3CN \xrightarrow{LiAlH_4,H_2O} CH_3CH_2NH_2}
