Blood groups are created by the molecules which are present on the surface of RBC or other cells.

 \sf{ \purple{What \: are \: Antibodies?}}

Antibodies are proteins produced by certain white blood cells in response or destory to foreign bodies i.e., antigens.

 \sf{ \purple{What \: are \: Antigens?}}

Antigens are any foreign substances that when introduced into the body cause the immune system to create an antibody.

_____________________________________________

There are two types of antigens and two types of antibodies.

◔ Antigens are antigen-A and antigen-B.

◔ Antibodies are anti-A and anti-B.

In humans four blood groups have been recognised. They are A, B, AB and O.

Refer the attachment for summarising antigen and antibodies.

Why a person with "O" type of blood group is called universal donor ?

A person with "O" type of blood group is called universal donor because it can donate blood to all types and also O type of blood group contains both types of antibodies.

Why "AB" type of blood group is called universal recipient ?

A person with "AB" type of blood group is called universal recipient because it can receive blood from all types and also someone with AB type of blood has not got antibodies that would attack the transfused blood that contains type A or B antigen.
