Heya friend !
Cation is a positively charged radical, whereas Anion is a negatively charged radical.
let the given unknown salt be sodium chloride(NaCl) as we know.
This procedure of detecting/ finding whether the radical is cation or anion is called Cation analysis and anion analysis.
Dry tests are those which are performed with the solid state ( or the mixture of salts)
while,
wet tests are those tests which are performed by dissolving the salts or mixture of salts.
The answer would be, I think,
sodium is positively charged..so it is cation..
whereas chloride ion is negatively charged...so it is anion..
we can tell whether these are positive or negative by their respective valencies.
I tried to reach you what I know.
Hope it gives atleast an idea for you...
Thank you...
