Answer:

x is rectifier

a rectifier rectifies the ac input into a unidirectional half sinasaudal output(dc)

a full wave rectifier consists of 2 diodes d1 and d2, a centre tap transformer and a cente tap load resistance

The device X in the circuit is a FULL-WAVE RECTIFIER.

Why is it called so ??

  • We can see that the input is an alternating current , but the output is a pulsatile one directional current.

  • Full wave rectifiers include two oppositely directed p-n junction diode placed in the circuit such that it the alternating current gets converted to a unidirectional current.

  • A capacitor is often attached along the resistive load in order to decrease the pulsatile character of the current.

  • Full wave rectifiers are used in mobile chargers win the alternating current (supplied to our homes) is converted to a one directional current necessary for charging the mobile batteries.
